David Wright will join the Mets in San Francisco to "continue his rehab under the watch of our training staff and will remain on the DL," the team announced Thursday.

Wright's rehab clock expires Friday, and assistant GM John Ricco said earlier this week that two immediate options for Wright were to join the team and remain on the DL or rehab in Port St. Lucie.

On Wednesday night, Wright played his second rehab game after advancing to Triple-A Las Vegas. Before the game, Wright sat down with SNY's Andy Martino to discuss his rehab and future.

When asked if Wright expected to play in the majors tihs year, he didn't hesitate.

"The simple answer to that is yes," he said. "Do I know when [I'll play]? No," Wright added, noting that he was "cautiously optimistic."

While Wright is optimistic, Ricco said before Wright's first game with Las Vegas that he had yet to show in either a quantitative or qualitative fashion what the Mets need to see in order to promote him to the majors.

The 35-year-old, who is looking to return from various back, neck and shoulder injuries, including spinal stenosis, last played in a major league game in May of 2016.
