Any thought that the Giants might still start Daniel Jones in Monday's game against the Eagles got shot down at Saturday's practice.

Second-year head coach Pat Shurmur confirmed that the rookie quarterback would be out for the Giants (2-10), who officially turn back to veteran Eli Manning in Week 14 at Philadelphia.

Ahead of the 8:15 p.m. kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field against the Eagles (5-7), Shurmur noted that Jones progressed and was eager to get back in time after shedding the protective walking boot Friday, but he ultimately remains sidelined.

"He feels a little bit caged up, quite frankly," Shurmur said of Jones on Saturday. "He's frustrated that he can't. But that's the way it goes. We all know players get injured at times, and they have to fight their way back. The one thing I like about his demeanor is he's frustrated, wants to play and doing everything in his power. We get here very similar time, in the 5 o'clock hour, and he's getting treatment. He's doing everything he can to get ready to play, and that's a good thing when you see a guy want it so badly."

"We'll have to see," Shurmur said of Jones' status for next week. "He didn't practice this week, and we'll just have to see when we come back to practice next Wednesday how much he can do. Then we'll take it from there."

Despite what the Giants' eight-game losing streak might lead one to believe, Jones has developed with each week, completing 228 of 370 passes (61.6 percent) for 2,374 yards and 18 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in 11 games (10 starts).

"Obviously, he wants to play. He's upset that he's hurting and probably won't (play)," offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Shula said of Jones on Friday. "We talked to him about, 'Hey, get healthy as fast as you can. In the meantime, prepare this week just like you're going to play.' But he's been good. We have great guys in that room, like I've said all year long."

Manning takes over for Jones after initially starting the first two games of the regular season and completing 56 of 89 passes (62.9 percent) with 556 yards and two touchdowns to two interceptions, holding the spot until the Giants host the Miami Dolphins (3-10) next Sunday in Week 15.

"Daniel is competing and learning," Manning said of Jones on Wednesday. "He makes a lot of great plays and I think he's doing everything to get prepared and make progress each week. I've just been impressed with his work ethic and the dedication he has put towards getting ready to play each week."
