He played in 15 games last season, starting in 13 while posting his best career numbers. He even had a two-interception performance. But B.J. Goodson's time with the Giants could be up very soon.

That's just the feeling one gets when looking at the Giants' linebackers situation heading into Week 3 of the preseason against the Bengals Thursday night. Goodson hasn't been working with the first team next to Alec Ogletree, as many may have expected to start training camp.

Instead, it has been Tae Davis who has taken over that role with the Giants. He was a longshot out of Tennessee-Cattanooga to make the 53-man roster in 2018, but he accomplished that feat. Now the Giants' coaching staff seems to be very high on him, and him sitting out along with Ogletree in Week 2 against the Bears this past Friday proves that.

Goodson, on the other hand, has had to wait his turn in these games. And when he's gotten in, he's only two totaled two tackles and two assists.

"He had a couple of days he wasn't out practicing, he's getting back in there,'' head coach Pat Shurmur told The Post's Paul Schwartz a couple weeks back. "He's in that linebacker crew competing to be on the team.''

But Goodson was supposed to be up on the first team as a solid starter next to Ogletree by now. Instead, two other factors are also not helping Goodson's cause: Nate Stupar and Ryan Connelly.

The former was a pickup last season for the Giants, as Stupar came over from the Saints to add depth at the position. He only got one start and tallied 14 combined tackles last season, but he's already picked up three tackles and two assists to go along with a pass defended against the Bears.

Connelly, a fifth-round pick out of Wisconsin, has come in and made a great first impression to his new coaches. And while he only played in the preseason opener against the Jets, he amassed four tackles and one assist during the game to put his name on the map for the 53-man roster.

What both of these linebackers possess in their arsenal that Goodson doesn't necessarily have is good coverage skills. Goodson's skill set heavily favors a run stopper, and not one that can drop back into coverage if need be. Stupar and Connelly have been showing they can excel in both areas.

And to add to the pile, Goodson was a Jerry Reese pick back in 2016 (fourth round out of Clemson). So GM Dave Gettleman has no ties to him, and could bet on his pick in Connelly moving forward as well.

The cards seemed to be stacked against him at the moment, which is why tomorrow night could be Goodson's last chance to prove to the Giants he's still worth a roster spot with cuts beginning over the weekend. If Goodson doesn't perform to his coaches' liking, he could be looking for a new team heading into the regular season.
