The Giants' wide receiving corps has taken a big hit early on with Sterling Shepard injured, Golden Tate facing a four-game suspension, and Corey Coleman out for the season with a torn ACL. That was expected to be the top three players on the depth chart, but now things have changed here quickly in East Rutherford.

But with the losses, other receivers are beginning to step up.

Cody Latimer, entering his fifth year in the league, is looking to take advantage of this opportunity that will likely see him get many reps to start the season. The former second-round pick by the Broncos didn't pan out well in Denver, and after four years with the squad, they didn't mind moving on from him.

Latimer signed with the Giants last season, hoping a fresh start was on the horizon. But he was only able to play in six games, as injuries forced him to stay sidelined for most of the season.

Still, Latimer made a good final impression in Week 17 against the Cowboys at MetLife Stadium. He's looking to build off that along with his teammates.

"We're just a bunch of hungry guys," Latimer told The Post's Mollie Walker. "Bennie [Fowler] and Russell [Shepard] are so humble and just so hungry. Watching them every day and the excitement they bring, it motivates me. Me and Bennie have been competing for years now and to see him never slouch, every day is always bringing it and always hungry."

Fowler and Latimer both broke into the league together, and their bond is evident. They both left Denver in 2017 and joined the Giants under former Broncos wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert last season. Fowler's health was better as he played in 10 games accumulating 199 yards on 16 receptions.

Like Latimer, Fowler is just searching for the right opportunity to show the Giants that he can make an impact.

"Just an opportunity," he said. "We don't know what's going to go on with Golden, but we know [Sterling Shepard is] going to be back. It'll be Cody, [Russell Shepard] and Sterling out there, just like how we finished the Dallas Cowboys game last year."

Eli Manning was a fan of Latimer in that game, sending a few balls his way downfield that he went up and snagged. Being 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, Latimer has the ability to go up and get jump balls -- an area of the game the Giants could use with Odell Beckham Jr. gone now.

Manning believes Latimer could be that man as well as a receiver he can trust.

"I think he's come up strong," Manning explained. "He can really run, he knows all of his assignments, he's dialed into what we are doing and he's made some nice plays for us. He's a big target who can also stretch the field and he's having a great camp so far."

Latimer knows the Giants is where he can turn his career around. He wasn't as disciplined as he is now, and his family has a lot to do with that. Latimer is a newlywed this offseason, and has his 4-year-old son Jacoby to worry about as well.

Those are always good motivators, and after signing another one-year deal with the Giants at the veteran minimum this season, Latimer will hope his production can see a multi-year contract come his way after the season.

"I was glad I was able to come back and finish strong, obviously get another year here," Latimer said. "It was more of -- I feel like I owe the Giants and the fans and myself this year."

Looks like Latimer will be getting that shot from the very start.
