C.J. Mosley is not having the year he thought he'd have in his first season with the Jets, having missed six games and on his way to missing a seventh this Sunday against the Jets.

Entering his sixth season in the NFL, Mosley had only missed three total games in his career prior to signing the with Jets in the offseason.

But in just his first game in green and white--a fantastic performance at that--Mosley injured his groin and has missed all but one game since.

Mosley spoke with The New York Post's Brian Costello on Friday to discuss how he's feeling about the hard start to his career with Gang Green.

"It's different, I'll say that," Mosley told The Post. "There's nothing I can really do to get back on the field. It's something I just have to let it heal."

The injury got worse for Mosley as time went on, moving up from his groin into his lower abs into what has now also become a core muscle injury.

"It started in the groin and it worked its way up to my lower abs, which sucked," Mosley said. "I tried my best to finish the [Patriots] game, but I was literally playing on one leg."

Mosley didn't look the same as he did in Week 1--he returned an interception for a touchdown and recovered a fumble for the Jets--when he faced the Patriots in Week 6, and was clearly still hurting from his injury.

The inside linebacker has since seen a specialist and had to decide between potential surgery or to have platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy instead.

"[Surgery] was talked about. I did the PRP shot," Mosley said. "The recovery time for both was like the same, so I just wanted to avoid surgery if I can. Worst-case scenario is I just do all the rehab and if it's still bothering me I'll get the surgery later."

"It's a 6-8 week process. I'm still in phase one right now, which is balancing. I just started walking as part of my rehab. It's a slow process. You have to take it day by day."

Having just signed a five-year, $85 million deal with the Jets in the offseason, Mosley doesn't intend to rush back to the field anytime soon and possibly jeopardize his health any further.

"I'm doing what I can. There's no need to rush it and make it even worse," he said. "If I'm not 100 percent, I won't try to play. If I am, I definitely will try to. I've missed the whole season. If I can get at least one game in, I'm going to try. That's another six months off. It's going to be a process. It's all about the longevity."

The Jets can look at the way Mosley performed at full health back in Week 1 as something to look forward to again once the leader of their defense is ready to play again.
