Braves' Vaughn Grissom thankful to not be a Met, which he says would've been 'terrible'

As the Mets and Atlanta Braves vie for the NL East crown for the remainder of the 2022 season, the rivalry may have just gotten more intense on Thursday after Vaughn Grissom had some choice words to say about the Amazin’s.

In an article published by Mark Bowman, Grissom had some apprehension during the 2019 MLB Draft.

Why you might ask? Well, apparently he didn’t want to be drafted by the Mets.

“I thought I was going to be a Met, which would have been terrible,” Grissom said.

The comment sure won’t go over well with Mets fans, who already despise the reigning World Series champs and didn’t need any more reason to dislike them. But the message was heard loud and clear and will certainly only add fodder to the intense opposition.

Grissom has played well since his call-up earlier this month from Double-A, slashing .382/.424/.600 with three home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI.

The 11th-round draft pick has also been impressive against the team he hoped wouldn’t draft him. In four games against the Mets, Grissom is hitting .429 with a .967 OPS but still hasn’t hit a home run against New York.

The Mets and Braves have one more series in Atlanta during the last week of the regular season and are currently separated by just 1.5 games in the NL East standings. It's likely that the only way Grissom would come back to New York this season is if the two teams meet each other in the NLDS.
