Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke to media Sunday ahead of their ALDS matchup with the Cleveland Guardians, and said that Aroldis Chapman missed a Friday workout and will not be on the postseason roster.

"Chappy will not be on the postseason roster," Boone said. "He was scheduled to be here Friday as part of our workout with the live, was not, and not what I thought was an acceptable excuse. So I've had him stay away for now."

Boone added that Chapman went back to Miami and "felt like it was best for him to stay away for now." Boone went on to talk about the chances Chapman had to make the postseason roster before missing the workout, and discussed the team's future plans.

"I think there was a chance he absolutely could have been, we're still actually getting ready to start those conversations now," Boone said. "He may have been, it's a moot point now."

Boone added: "He wasn't here and he was supposed to have a live. I think he questioned whether he was going to be on the roster or not. He needed to be here."

Boone did not rule Chapman out for the whole postseason, but just the ALDS round for now.

"I was disappointed that he wasn't here for that, but we have to move on and get ready for a really good opponent," Boone said.

Chapman could face disciplinary action, as Boone said it's being discussed and is possible. GM Brian Cashman spoke after Boone and added more details to Chapman's situation, including that he fined the closer.

"Obviously we have not had our official postseason roster meetings, but he effectively took himself out of at least this round of consideration," Cashman said. "Because obviously as a team we have everybody, who's obviously part of our network here, working out starting Friday. And he made a decision not to show.

"So I fined him. Obviously I had a conversation with him. I fined him for not being here at a mandatory workout. And Aaron Boone post-workout had a conversation with him, and during that conversation, I wasn't a part of that, Booney made the decision, telling him just to stand down and stay home. You got to be all in at this time of the year and it's disappointing. He effectively made that type of decision."
