Brett Favre knows all too well how Eli Manning is feeling right now.

The Hall of Famer was in his position when the Packers ushered in Aaron Rodgers as their new franchise quarterback back in 2008. Favre had spent 16 seasons under center for Green Bay, leading the way to a Super Bowl victory in 1996 during that span.

That's almost the same exact time as Manning, who is currently in his 16th season with the Giants. But Favre was traded to the Jets in '08, while Manning is currently sitting behind Jones as his backup. It's all new to Manning, but speaking on his SiriusXM NFL Radio show, Favre said this thought must have, or will, cross Manning's mind soon.

"Not that Eli has to prove anything to anyone," Favre said. "The short-term it really makes you look bad. And all the things that have been leading to the team's losses falls back on you -- and you know that's not the case. It's hard to say, 'Heck, I guess it's me. I guess the reason we are losing these games is because of me.' You have to believe that at some point that crosses his mind."

Daniel Jones burst onto the scene with a stellar debut -- 336 yards with two passing and two rushing touchdowns to lead the Giants in a 32-31 victory. And while Manning was supportive of Jones throughout the game, Favre said it's hard for Manning not to be thinking deep down that wasn't the type of performance he wanted to see from Jones.

"You and I and anyone else can only speculate what Eli was thinking," Favre said, "but you have to think that deep down inside a part of him, not wanted to see Daniel Jones fail but not play at the level he did."

In Manning's rookie debut back in 2004, he went 17-for-31 for 162 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in a loss to the Falcons. A stark opposite from Jones.

But much like what Rodgers did when he was handed the reins, Jones took advantage of the opportunity presented to him. Head coach Pat Shurmur knew it was time to make the switch and it was the right call. We'll see what Jones can do for the rest of the season, as defenses now have some more film to study when creating a game plan to limit him.

"The kid played great and did a heck of a job in a lot of different ways," Favre said of Jones. "Really, from a debut standpoint, it couldn't have gone any better."

Whether or not Manning will follow in Favre's footsteps and move on to another NFL team to keep his career going is still to be seen. But Favre knows, like the rest of us, that the Jones Era is upon the Giants. And Favre knows Manning is fully aware of that as well.

"I think he has seen the writing on the wall before this last game. If anything it has solidified what we thought was coming anyway," Favre said. "The Eli Era, at least with the Giants, is over."
