Jets head coach Adam Gase spoke to reporters during a conference call on Monday afternoon to discuss the team's Week 12 loss to the Miami Dolphins, Sam Darnold's status, and why the team's struggles aren't all on the young QB.

Darnold struggled against the Dolphins, completing just 16 of his 27 passes for 197 yards and two interceptions. Breshad Perriman was the lead receiver, making four catches for 79 yards, while rookie Denzel Mims caught four passes for 67 yards in the loss.

Despite the team still searching for their first win of the season, it doesn't seem that Gase will be changing quarterbacks for the remaining six games. He believes in Darnold and sees him as part of the solution.

Gase on Darnold's injury status

"For this week... Sam, same thing, we'll kind of see how the next couple days go, and then see where he's at on Wednesday," Gase said. "And then try to make a decision as the week goes on, on his availability.

"It's gonna be more about where his pain tolerance is. It sounds like him throwing the ball, he feels pretty good doing that, it's more about when he gets hit, getting driven into the turf, how his shoulder is going to react to that. We're weighing through those options and just trying to figure out what's the best for him."

On Darnold's mindset after losses

"This is the first time I've been a part of this many losses in a row," Gase said. "That's a majority of the guys on this team. It can easily get to the point where it can affect you as a player, definitely at quarterback. He's done a good job, talking through what happened in the game on Monday, coming back on Wednesday, wiping the slate clean, trying to prepare himself for the next opponent.

"He's been good in my conversations with him, as far as trying to right the ship. ... He's working to try to be a part of the solution. I don't see his attitude change, I know it can't be easy for him. Any time you're a quarterback, we all know that it's quarterbacks and head coaches, the two that it's all on."

On what Darnold can do the last six games

"I'd like to see him play with our starting wide receivers," Gase said. "That would probably be my number one thing I'd like to see.

"Sam is the starter and we need Sam to play as many snaps as possible."

Darnold joined the conference call after Gase and discussed how he's feeling going forward this week and the rest of the season.

"For me, it's just taking it one day at a time," Darnold said. "The shoulder feels good throwing, doing all the things I need to do. At this point, it's just getting hit and how it's going to respond. Throughout the week I just need to be careful with how it feels and what bothers it, what doesn't. It feels really good, continue to take it one day at a time."
