The Jets very much held on for their first win of the 2019 season, a 24-22 win over the Dallas Cowboys. It took a game-sealing blitz on the Cowboys' late two-point conversion attempt to take the win.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott sent a pass intended for tight end Jason Witten into the ground as the Jets weren't playing chess, they were playing math. Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams dialed up an all-out blitz and there were plenty more defenders than blockers.
The decision worked as safety Jamal Adams went in on Prescott unblocked and forced the incompletion.
Following the game, Jets head coach Adam Gase said it was as simple as that. Send more than they had blocking. It didn't even matter what the Cowboys had planned.
"Greg blitzed everybody," Gase said. "We didn't really care what they were doing on offense. Someone was getting free."
Adams, who had a team-high nine tackles, a tackle for loss and pass defended in the win, said the blitz is one the defense has practiced plenty and happens to be one he's fond of.
"It's one of my favorite blitzes. Coach... he counted on me, he had trust in us, and I made the play," Adams said. "We had some great stops."
"That's just finishing, that's just playing as one. Never quitting," Adams added.
While still only 1-4 this season, Adams says from here it's one at a time for the Jets, who now turn their attention to a Monday Night Football encounter with the Patriots next week.
"It's just one. Obviously we're happy about it, we're ecstatic about it because it was a hard fought battle, but it's just one," Adams said.
