The Rangers will be without their top defenseman for the foreseeable future.
Adam Fox is being placed on injured reserve due to the upper-body injury suffered during Tuesday night’s game against the Islanders.
Fox landed awkwardly on his left shoulder on a collision midway through the third period. He immediately skated off to the locker room visibly in pain and was ruled out for the remainder of the night shortly after.
The Rangers are confident that the 27-year-old should be able to return to the lineup down the stretch this season, but he’ll be sidelined for at least the next three games after officially landing on IR.
Fox has had a bit of an up-and-down season but he’s been very productive of late, putting together points in seven consecutive games (two goals, six assists).
K’Andre Miller could jump up to New York’s top pairing in his place, but it remains to be seen if he’ll miss any time after leaving Tuesday’s contest midway through the second period with a lower-body injury.
Matthew Robertson has been recalled from Hartford to potentially make his debut.
Despite their shaky play at times this season, the Rangers have won three of their last four and they currently sit just two points behind the Ottawa Senators for the second Eastern Conference Wild Card spot.
