After Aaron Boone decided to pinch-hit for Aaron Judge in the bottom of the sixth inning of Tuesday’s 9-6 win over Atlanta, the Yankees skipper has decided to keep Judge out of Wednesday’s lineup as well.

Boone explain that Judge is dealing with some general lower-body tightness following playing on the artificial surface in Tampa Bay, and Boone said he’s taken precaution by sitting Judge, who told him he wanted to play.

“Essentially what’s going with Aaron is I made a quick decision in the game just based on how I thought he was moving around and coming off a series in which he was on the turf,” Boone said on Wednesday. “I know he got some wear and tear as we were out there in Tampa, so I made a decision to get him out of there and kind of see where we were as we evaluated him after the game and overnight, and then obviously coming in today. He’s in getting treatment now. He wanted to play. I made the decision to hold him out today knowing that we have an off day tomorrow and obviously division opponents now coming in. So essentially, he’s just dealing with some lower-body tightness that we’re hoping to get out ahead of and hopefully prevent an injury moving forward.

“Again, it kind of goes back to the 60-game season, and you’ve heard me talk a lot about the importance of building these guys up and making sure we take care of them in some degree, based on a three-week summer training and right into the grind and the rigors of the major league season. Hopefully, this is something that we’re out ahead of and will only be a couple days.”

Judge slammed his MLB-leading ninth home run earlier in Tuesday’s game, and he’s been putting together some MVP-type numbers, slashing .290/.343/.758 with nine homers and an AL-best 20 RBI.

But with a day off on Thursday and then seven-straight AL East games against the Red Sox and Rays, Boone thought it best to hold the slugger out on Wednesday to give him time to rest.

“I hope so, but that’s, in a lot of ways, a long way from now,” Boone said about the possibility of Judge playing Friday against Boston. “So, let’s just kind of get through today. Obviously tomorrow will be valuable to just kind of treat it and get some rest and we’ll see where we’re at.”
