Amidst the MLB shutdown due to coronavirus, Yankees manager Aaron Boone, part of his coaching staff, and several players departed the team's spring training complex in Tampa on Tuesday to head home.

Saying "stay safe, y'all" as he pulled away, Boone had said Monday that he was preparing to depart spring training to head back north.

According to Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News, the majority of the Yankees' coaching staff was leaving to head home on Tuesday in addition to Boone.

While MLB spring training complexes are still technically open, most -- including the Mets -- are no longer allowing players to partake in group workouts due to the CDC's recommendation of social distancing in order to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

Players are still permitted to use the gym at spring training facilities and get individual treatment.

Yanks reliever Zack Britton said the players union advised the players to go wherever they feel most comfortable for the next "four-to-six weeks," according to Ackert.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman, who made a brief appearance at the facility on Tuesday, told reporters his plan for now was to remain in Tampa.

Earlier Tuesday, a second Yankees minor leaguer tested positive for coronavirus, with Cashman saying the team might soon provide more information on that situation.
