Add Dominic Smith to the already long list of people who are excited to have Steve Cohen as the new owner of the Mets.

Smith hopped on The Ringer's R2C2 podcast with former Yankee CC Sabathia and Ryan Ruocco to discuss the new owner.

"Obviously, reading his comments [on Twitter] make you extremely excited and super happy. ... You have an owner that wants to come in and he wants to get after it," Smith said. "He made a lot of strong statements [Tuesday]. I'm excited to see what he's gonna do. I don't know what he's gonna do, but he's going to make a splash.

"... I don't know much about him, I really don't. But I'm excited because he's a die-hard Mets fan, he says he has a lot of money, he wants to spend it," Smith added, which led to some laughs by the podcast's trio.

"That's a draw. Especially in this market. The Mets should be that, you know what I'm saying? They should be like the Yankees," said Sabathia. "People always call [the Yankees] the Evil Empire and mad outside looking in, but for me, it's just more wins. More championships. And I know that's what Met fans want and that's what Met players want. It'd be great to have that in New York and have that Subway Series be a lot more fun and be actually a battle and people can really enjoy it."

Smith added that new team president Sandy Alderson gave him a call the other day, and "to hear from the new front office is pretty cool."

The 25-year-old slugger said that there is already an exciting vibe in the Mets' clubhouse with Cohen taking over, and thinks they can be a real championship contender "as early as next year."

"A bunch of guys have called me the last four days and said 'hey, did you see the news? You see what's going on? You ready? You excited?' Me personally, I know I'm excited," Smith said. "I know the guys are fired up. We've been hearing this for a couple months now. ... It's something that we've been talking about, and it's here. We wanna see what he's gonna do, and hopefully he brings in some guys. ... If he does, look out for us."
