Jeff McNeil's health and a trade shaking things up are among the things to keep an eye on

The Mets and Atlanta Braves play a five-game series at Citi Field starting on Monday.

Here are five things to watch...

How is Jeff McNeil?

McNeil left the game early on July 21 due to "fatigue" in his left leg and has not returned to the starting lineup since.

But McNeil did pinch-hit on Sunday in what was his first appearance since leaving the game on July 21, and delivered a huge two-run double. That hit also extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

The expectation is that McNeil will be good to start at least one game of the doubleheader against the Braves on Monday.

Who starts on Monday and Tuesday?

The Mets have Marcus Stroman starting one of Monday's games, but do not have a pitcher listed for the other. They also don't yet have a pitcher listed for Tuesday.

With Carlos Carrasco getting close but not ready to return until at least Friday and Jacob deGrom also close but not close enough to pitch Monday or Tuesday, the Mets will remain in scramble mode for the next few days.

Using an opener for one of Monday's games would make sense, but it's unclear how the Mets will fill the innings on Tuesday.

Will a trade shake things up?

The Mets are "all over" the pitching market with the trade deadline four days away, reports SNY's Andy Martino.

Will they trade for Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer?

Will it be someone less heralded?

How about a rental player like Kris Bryant or Trevor Story?

No matter which way the Mets go, there's a chance the team looks different by the time their series with the Braves ends on Thursday.

How hot can Pete Alonso get?

Alonso has been on fire since the second half of the season began and has crushed five homers in his last six games.

He now has 22 homers for the season and is on pace to finish with 37.

Overall, he is slashing .265/.342/.516, and is starting to resemble the version of Alonso who took the league by storm in 2019 -- though it should be noted that his 2020 season was quite productive despite the narrative surrounding it.

Can the Mets get to Charlie Morton?

The Mets have scored just four runs in 19 innings during Morton's three starts against them this season, but Morton -- who is set to start on Tuesday -- will now be facing a version of the Mets that is at mostly full strength.

Morton's curve has bedeviled the Mets this season, so how they handle that pitch will be among the things to watch when he toes the rubber.
