Jets head coach Adam Gase spoke to the media for the first time since the conclusion of the NFL Draft as players reported to the facilities in Florham Park, NJ for rookie orientation.

Gase was asked about expectations and impressions oof the rookies, as well as other stuff regarding the team since the draft, such as the status of Le'Veon Bell.

Here are the takeaways from Gase:

No worries over Bell

Le'Veon Bell, who sat out all of last season after not receiving a contract extension from the Pittsburgh Steelers, did not report to the Jets' voluntary offseason training program and Gase is fine with that.

"It's voluntary," he said. "Everybody can get upset about it; there's no point. We know where he is. He's working out. He's always been ready. Every year that he's played he's been ready to go. That's just what it is. If somebody doesn't like it, then talk to the NLFPA."

Gase fully expects Bell to join the team once mandatory mini-camp begins in June.

"We had a conversation about his schedule," Gase said. "We'll see how OTAs go. Right now, I know the mandatory stuff he said he'll be there for that. I don't expect him to not show up for that. When we get a chance and we can cover some things I know that he'll come in, he'll get what he needs to get and he'll be ready for the season."

Help for Leonard Williams

The Jets' selection of Alabama DT Quinnen Williams with the third overall pick should certainly help bolster the offensive line and give the Jets pressure up the middle, but it could also pay dividends for veteran defensive lineman Leonard Williams.

"Any time you can have a talented player next to Leonard that's a positive for him," Gase said. "He attracts a lot of attention. That's how I used to look at Leonard. We always wanted to get four hands on him as much as possible; never wanted him to be singled up. We felt like we were in trouble if he was."

Clean slate for Polite

The Jets' third-round selection of Florida pass rusher Jachai Polite was a risky one because of the question marks that surrounded him following his performance and behavior at the NFL Combine. Yet Gase is optimistic that Polite can put that stuff behind him and move forward.

"Whatever happened in the past is irrelevant to me," he said. "Started last night with our meetings and moving forward it's going to be on him to do right things, show up every day, being on time, practice hard. If he does all that it should be smooth sailing."

Fine at center

Right now the Jets appear to be sticking with Jonotthan Harrison at center after failing to add one through free agency or the draft and Gase seems fine with that but added depth is always important at center.

"I like where we're at," he said. "Any time that you have depth at that position it's comforting as a coach. I've in situations where we've been through four centers in season. … Jonotthan has done a great job, I feel like he does a really good job of leading that group. I think Sam [Darnold] feels very comfortable with him and I think that group is coming together well."
