Mets

The Mets navigated through the elements in D.C. to come away with a 2-0 win. Starter Clay Holmes had to warm up several times and manager Carlos Mendoza decided to pull him after five innings. The bullpen once again did the job keeping the Nationals off the board, but lost a key member when A.J. Minter exited in the eighth inning with a triceps injury. The game's only runs came off the bat of Francisco Alvarez, who talked about being more balanced at the plate and it paid off with his two-run shot.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that reliever A.J. Minter will get an MRI on his injured triceps on Sunday, after leaving the game in the eighth inning. Mendoza praised the rest of the bullpen for holding the Mets' 2-0 lead the rest of the way. He thought Francisco Alvarez's two-run homer to right field was "impressive" and proved to be the only runs scored in the game.

Clay Holmes tossed five scoreless innings and the Mets bullpen four more as they blanked the Nationals 2-0. The only offense in the game was provided by Francisco Alvarez, who drove a two-run homer to the opposite field. It was Alvarez' first homer since returning from the injured list. The only blemish on the afternoon was a triceps injury to reliever A.J. Minter that forced him to leave the game in the eighth inning.
