At sold-out Clover Park, Juan Soto gave the crowd what they came to see, a solo HR in the bottom of the first inning as the Mets went on to defeat the Astros 6-2. Clay Holmes, making the transition from reliever to starter, breezed through three scoreless innings while striking out three batters.

Mets right fielder Juan Soto couldn't have scripted it any better, hitting a solo HR in his first at-bat against the Houston Astros. Soto attributed his successful start to the hard work he's put in both during the offseason and the first week of spring training. As for the home run, he felt Astros pitcher Colton Gordon would come right back with a fastball after getting a swinging strike on the previous pitch and Soto thought, "Don't miss it."
