Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza felt prior to the Mets game on Monday vs. Washington, that Brandon Nimmo was due to break out of his slump because "he's a really good hitter." Starter Griffin Canning will settle for putting up zeros through five innings, crediting catcher Francisco Alvarez with calling a strong game, but it remains his goal to get deeper into games.

Saying "it felt good," Mets OF Brandon Nimmo had himself a day with a club-record tying nine RBI. Nimmo bashed a pair of homers, including a grand slam and a three-run shot. He wasn't done, lining a two-run double to tie the team mark for RBI in a game.  He added that "it was cool" to be part of Mets history.

Brandon Nimmo led a 21-hit Mets attack, tying a club record with nine RBI in a 19-5 rout of the Nationals. Nimmo launched a pair of home runs including a grand slam and added a two-run double, breaking out of his slump with a monster performance. Starter Griffin Canning continues to impress, pitching five scoreless innings as the Mets gained a split of the four-game series in Washington.

The Mets navigated through the elements in D.C. to come away with a 2-0 win. Starter Clay Holmes had to warm up several times and manager Carlos Mendoza decided to pull him after five innings. The bullpen once again did the job keeping the Nationals off the board, but lost a key member when A.J. Minter exited in the eighth inning with a triceps injury. The game's only runs came off the bat of Francisco Alvarez, who talked about being more balanced at the plate and it paid off with his two-run shot.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that reliever A.J. Minter will get an MRI on his injured triceps on Sunday, after leaving the game in the eighth inning. Mendoza praised the rest of the bullpen for holding the Mets' 2-0 lead the rest of the way. He thought Francisco Alvarez's two-run homer to right field was "impressive" and proved to be the only runs scored in the game.
