In his final start of the spring, Mets lefty David Peterson tossed a strong five innings against the Marlins and feels "fresh" to begin the new season. As for his outlook on the rest of the rotation, Peterson feels the versatility of the group will keep opposing teams off balance and the pitching depth in the organization is a huge plus.

Mark Vientos launched his first home run of the spring for the Mets but the Nationals answered with a walk-off two-run shot in the ninth inning to top New York  3-1. Veteran Joander Suarez started for the Mets and pitched four effective scoreless innings, striking out three.

After David Peterson's worst start of the year against the Marlins on Saturday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza admitted the lefty "just didn't have it right from the get go." Conversely, he was super impressed with Juan Soto's two-homer, two-stolen base performance and the possibility of a 30/30 season, calling him a "special player." In the end, Mendoza was more than satisfied with the offense putting up eight runs, but disappointed that the pitching staff was unable to keep the Marlins in check after the Mets battled back to tie the game.
