On the mound, Houck's teammate, Daviel Hurtado, a crafty young lefty from Cuba, allowed just a single earned run and struck out four over five innings.

Interim Mets manager Andy Green and starter Zac Thornton stated that obviously his giving up four home runs was not ideal but Green felt Thornton came close to escaping the fifth inning and both credited Giants' first baseman Rafael Devers with a great job of hitting his two homers. The Mets manager was happy with his rookie outfielder A.J. Ewing's two-run HR and his renewed approach at the plate after getting a couple of days off.

It was a rough afternoon for starter Zac Thornton and the Mets bullpen, allowing six home runs in a 9-5 Giants win. New York managed just five hits on the day with Brett Baty and A.J. Ewing combining to drive in all five of their runs.
