He last played for the Rangers on 1/14 and said that when he was glad to be sent back to Hartford last year because it would allow him to "get back to basics" with his game. (Courant)
Nieves said that he felt he may have been too offensively inclined during his time with the Rangers and wanted to show the organization that he could play in all areas of the game. (Courant)
Adam Rotter: Nieves should have as good a chance as anyone to make the team and earn his spot in the NHL. He's got speed, size and some skill and would likely project out as more of a bottom-six type of player if he were to stick in the NHL. It was surprising, at least to me, that Nieves was never recalled after the Rangers made their moves and started bringing people up. Nieves' played against BU and David Quinn before so Quinn likely has some level of familiarity with him already, but it will be on Nieves to win a job and impress in training camp.
