The Yankees crushed the Minnesota Twins 17-5 on Friday afternoon in Grapefruit League play.

Here are some takeaways...

- New York's offense came to play, striking eight times over the first two innings. They scored five runs in the top of the first with some help from four Twins walks, but the biggest blow came on a George Lombard Jr. two-run single with the bases loaded and just one out.

Lombard enjoyed an all-around strong day, also stealing a base and making a fantastic play at shortstop.

- The Bombers then tapped into their power, as Jasson Dominguez worked a nine-pitch at-bat in the second before smacking his first homer of the spring with a two-run shot to deep right, and J.C. Escarra followed that up with a 413-foot solo blast on a second pitch fastball from Cole Sands.

Dominguez finished the day 3-for-4 with two singles, the homer, and three RBI.

- The Yankees would strike again a few innings later, as Spencer Jones continued his torrid start to the spring with a 427 foot two-run blast off the batters eye in dead center, then later in the inning veteran infielder Paul DeJong lifted a two-run shot of his own to make it 14-1.

Jones has gone deep on back-to-back days, pushing him into a tie for the league-lead this spring (3).

- Luis Gil's second spring start didn't quite go as planned. The righty gave up a solo shot to Trevor Larnach in the first, then didn't finish the second after allowing a pair of two out baserunners. The Yanks bullpen helped him dance out of danger without further damage, and thanks to spring training rules he returned for the third.

Gil retired the first two batters, closing his line with one run allowed on two hits and a walk over 2.1 innings.

- Carlos Lagrange was impressive behind Gil, tossing three scoreless innings. Easily his strongest frame was when he punched out two batters en route to a perfect bottom of the sixth, with each of his putaway pitches topping 100 mph. The youngster allowed just two baserunners on a bunt single and HBP.

- Brent Headrick and Geoffrey Gilbert allowed two runs each over the last two innings.

Game MVP: Spencer Jones

Jones has been on fire to start the spring, putting himself square in the mix for a roster spot.
