The Yankees will be sitting down with free agent right-hander Stephen Strasburg on Wednesday, reports Jon Heyman.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported on Monday that in addition to Strasburg, the Yankees will also meet with Gerrit Cole.

According to Rosenthal, Strasburg and Cole -- who are both represented by Scott Boras -- have been meeting with interested teams in California.

The Dodgers are another team that has interest in Strasburg, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

"We're going to talk to Strasburg. We're going to talk to Cole," Yankees GM Brian Cashman said earlier this offseason. "We're going to talk to the higher-end guys and talk to some surprise guys I'm sure. It's hard to predict, but obviously anybody would have interest in players like that."

The process with Cole could be drawn out, with SNY's Andy Martino reporting in November that Cole could wait until after the new year to sign.

Strasburg could sign sooner, as could two other Yankees targets -- Zack Wheeler and Madison Bumgarner.

According to Martino, the Yankees "want Cole more than they've wanted a top free agent in years," and are playing a delicate game as they hope to land their top target without running the risk of missing out on him while letting their fallback options land elsewhere.

There have been rumblings that Strasburg is likely to return to the Nationals, which could be part of the reason why he's not generating nearly as much buzz as Cole or Wheeler.

The 31-year-old Strasburg had a tremendous regular season in 2019, with a 3.32 ERA (3.25 FIP) and 1.03 WHIP with 251 strikeouts in 209 innings over 33 starts. He then dominated in the postseason, culminating with winning the World Series MVP as the Nats beat the Astros in seven games.
