The Yankees dropped the third game of a four-game set against the Boston Red Sox, 6-5, in extra innings.

Here are the takeaways...

- The Yankees went down quietly in their first two at-bats against Kutter Crawford. This time, it was the Red Sox who broke open the scoring. Bobby Dalbec lined a two-out single up the middle scoring Xander Bogaerts giving Boston a 1-0 in the bottom of the second.

- The Bombers were held scoreless through their first four innings, however, the red hot Aaron Hicks launched a solo homer deep to right field tying the game at one. For Hicks, it was his sixth homer of the year.

- Crawford, who was very effective in his five innings of work, was replaced by Ryan Brasier in the top of the sixth inning and the Yankees pounced as soon as Brasier toed the slab. Gleyber Torres lined a leadoff single and was doubled in by Anthony Rizzo after Jarren Duran failed to come up with it on a diving attempt. Rizzo then was singled in by apparent Red Sox killer Josh Donaldson to give the Bombers a 3-1 lead.

- Jordan Montgomery was pulled with first and second with two outs in the bottom of the sixth after allowing a solo homer to Rob Refsnyder. His final line would be 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 K, giving the Yanks some needed depth into the game. Michael King came on to put out the fire, getting Trevor Story to pop up to center field, keeping the game at 3-2 Yankees.

- Clay Holmes came on after King surrendered a two-out double to J.D. Martinez in the bottom of the eighth. Holmes walked Bogaerts and allowed a two-out base hit to Alex Verdugo tying the game at three.

- After Holmes held it down in the ninth, the game was sent to extra innings. With Jose Trevino on second base, Aaron Judge laced a leadoff RBI double to left center field in the top of the tenth. Torres then grounded out to second advancing Judge to third. Rizzo stepped up and laced an RBI double down the right field line. The Yanks would take a 5-3 lead entering the bottom of the 10th.

- Wandy Peralta came on for the close with a two run lead. Refsnyder led off the inning with a single to left, setting up first and third with nobody out. After getting Christian Vazquez to fly out to right, Jeter Downs singled to right, setting up first and second with one out scoring Jarren Duran. Bogaerts grounded to third, which was likely a double play ball that Donaldson bobbled but recovered to get the out at first.

- Verdugo again stepped up with second and third and two outs with the Red Sox down a run. The left handed hitter lined a base hit to right field scoring two runs and winning the game for Boston by a score of 6-5.
