The Yankees dominated the Boston Red Sox to take the second game of their four-game set. 12-5.

Here are the takeaways...

- The Yankees came out of the gate firing in the top of the first. Gleyber Torres singled in DJ LeMahieu to give them an early 1-0 lead, setting up first and second with two outs for Josh Donaldson. Donaldson launched a homer over the green monster in left, handing Nestor Cortes Jr. a 4-0 lead before he stepped on the mound.

- The Red Sox, of course, answered in the bottom half of the first. Christian Vazquez doubled in J.D. Martinez and Rob Refsnyder with a shot off the monster. The Yankee lead would be cut to 4-2

- Matt Carpenter would add another for the Yankees when he doubled off the left field wall scoring LeMahieu bolstering their lead to 5-2 and getting one back after the Red Sox answer.

- In the top of the third, the Red Sox had yet another blunder. Aaron Hicks walked and Jose Trevino ripped a double down the left field line setting up second and third with nobody out. Marwin Gonzalez popped out to second and did not get the run in.

In stepped Joey Gallo–who has just two career sacrifice flies–with the Yanks in need of a fly ball. Gallo looped one to deep right and Red Sox right fielder Christian Arroyo could not find the ball in the air. The ball dropped in over his head in right scoring two runs and Gallo was gunned down trying to score an inside the park homer. The Yanks would lead 7-2 after a bizarre series of events.

- Who but Carpenter, again, would add onto the Yankees lead in the top of the fourth. The Yankees left fielder–for this game at least–jumped on a fastball and sent it deep to right field for a solo homer, his ninth of the season. Donaldson also scored after he stole third base and the ball got away from Rafael Devers into left field. The Yanks led 9-2 at this point in the game.

- Cortes could not hold down the fort as he allowed the Red Sox to answer again in the bottom of the fourth. Trevor Story and Bobby Dalbec both cranked solo homers cutting the lead to 9-4. Cortes was removed after surrendering a double to Refsnyder and then walking Martinez. Aaron Boone called on Miguel Castro who hit Xander Bogaerts with a pitch and then got Vazquez swinging with the bases loaded.

- The Red Sox would threaten again in the bottom of the sixth. Bogaerts grounded out to third, scoring Refsnyder making it 9-5. Lucas Luetge was called on to get the lefty Alex Verdugo with first and third and two outs. Luetge walked Alex Verdugo, sending up Story as the tying run. Story popped up to second ending the threat

- The Yanks added two more runs on a sacrifice bunt by Marwin Gonzalez in the seventh and a double by Torres in the eighth which made it an 11-5 game. Jackie Bradley Jr came on to pitch for the Red Sox and surrendered a run via bases loading walk making it 12-5 which was the final score.
