The Yankees took Game 2 of the doubleheader versus the Cleveland Guardians by a final score of 6-1.

Here are the takeaways...

- Nestor Cortes started off rocky again. In the top of the first inning, Amed Rosario took the southpaw deep to right center field to give the Guardians an early 1-0 lead. Not an ideal start to a game for someone looking to bounce back.

- The Yankees went quietly through their first three innings at-bat. Guardians starter Aaron Civale kept them off balanced as Cortes settled in and kept Cleveland at bay. However, the Bombers answered back in a big way in the top of the fourth. Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton smashed back-to-back homers to give the Yanks a 2-1 lead. Rizzo launched his 22nd of the season, Stanton his 20th.

- Cortes settled into the game in a big way. The Yankees starter did not surrender a run after Rosario's first-inning homer and was removed after the sixth inning. His final line would be six innings allowing just one run and striking out six. A massive bounce-back performance for the struggling Cortes.

- Despite "Nasty Nestor's" strong start, the Bombers posted just two runs through the sixth inning. However, that would change in the top of the seventh. Josh Donaldson doubled in two runs and would later score on a throwing error by Guardians reliever Enyel De Los Santos. Isiah Kiner-Falefa then singled in Miguel Andujar to complete the four-run seventh inning giving the Yanks a 6-1 lead.

- Aaron Boone called on Michael King and Wandy Peralta to finish the final three innings. King threw two scoreless innings and Peralta had a bit of a shaky ninth inning. Boone then called on Clay Holmes to get the final out as Peralta loaded them up with two outs. Holmes threw two pitches to get the final out in Steven Kwan to ground out to third. The Yanks would win the game 6-1.
