Clint Frazier homered but Masahiro Tanaka could not hold the lead as the Yankees fell to the Blue Jays 4-3 at Rogers Centre on Tuesday. >> Box score

Five takeaways from Tuesday's game

1) Masahiro Tanaka went from a four-inning shutout to allowing four runs in the fifth inning, courtesy of two home run balls. Tanaka's unraveling was exacerbated by an overturned call at second base and then a very poor non-strike call by home plate umpire Angel Hernandez. Tanaka's final line - 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB and 2 K - looks worse than he pitched for most of the night, but sometimes it only takes one bad inning to lose a game.

2) The Yankees have received clutch hitting for much of the season, but not tonight as New York went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position on the night. The Yanks stranded 11 runners, including two in the ninth inning.

3) Clint Frazier let his bat do the talking, hitting a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. Frazier, who now has 11 homers, has come under fire for skipping out on the media after Sunday night's debacle in right field. Frazier owned up to the mistake before tonight's game, but not before mentioning that he still feels the media for mistreating him during his rookie season by writing about his hair and other off-the-field items.

4) Aaron Hicks recorded two extra-base hits tonight, the second a solo home run that trimmed the Blue Jays lead to 4-3. Hicks is now 5-for-11 in his last three games as he appears to be getting the last of the rust off from his long stay on the injured list to begin the season.

5) Chad Green, who was recently sent down to the minors to rectify a poor start to the season, notched his fourth straight scoreless appearance, recording three outs in the eighth inning, including two strikeouts. If Green can continue this trend it deepens what has been one of the best bullpens in the game.

What's next

The Yankees return to face the Blue Jays on Wednesday with LHP James Paxton toeing the rubber opposite RHP Trent Thornton for Toronto at 7:07 p.m.
