The Yankees pitching and woes vs. the Red Sox continued Saturday en route to a 9-5 loss. >> Box score
Six takeaways from Saturday's game
1) The Yankees needed a stopper and CC Sabathia couldn't handle the job. Sabathia allowed five runs in 4 1/3 innings and it could be easily argued that the lefty should not have seen a batter in the fifth inning in which he allowed his fifth run. The Yankees rotation has been abysmal for a week and there is little indication that someone is going to turn things around anytime soon.
2) Gio Urshela was the brightest spot of the Yankees offense, which has slowed considerably since scoring 30 runs in three games in Minnesota. Urshela drove in two runs with his 11th home run (a solo shot) and an RBI single. Urshela added a second single and a double, which boosted his average back over the .300 mark (.306).
3) Chad Green, who entered the game with a 1.71 ERA in 31 2/3 innings (24 appearances) since he returned from the minors, could not hold the Red Sox close. Green allowed four runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings.
4) The Yankees have allowed 73 runs in their last seven games, which is the most in any seven-game stretch in franchise history.
5) Edwin Encarnacion and Luke Voit had two hits apiece, with Encarnacion driving in a run with his first of two doubles.
6) The Yankees went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
