The Yankees fell to the Blue Jays 6-5 in 12 innings on Friday night in Toronto. >> Box Score
Six takeaways from Friday's game...
1) With the game tied 5-5 in the bottom of the 12th inning, Tyler Lyons allowed a solo home run to Bo Bichette, giving the Blue Jays a walk-off 6-5 win. For Bichette, the blast was his 11th of his impressive rookie season.
2) Masahiro Tanaka breezed through the first inning, striking out two, but the Blue Jays took the first lead of the night in the second, as Randal Grichuk blasted his 26th home run of the season to put the Yankees in an early 1-0 hole. Tanaka then allowed two more runs in the fourth inning and another run was charged to him in the fifth. His night came to an end after five. His line was not very inspiring, as he allowed four earned on eight hits through five.
3) The Yankees offense came to life in the fifth. Former Mets prospect Anthony Kay kept the Yankees at bay through four, but Brett Gardner and Clint Frazier led off the inning with back-to-back doubles, scoring the Yankees' first run and beginning a rally. Austin Romine then singled home another run, and Luke Voit reached on a fielder's choice to tie the game.
4) After the Blue Jays turned the ball over to Jason Adams with two runners on and one out in the fifth, Adams quickly uncorked a wild pitch to put runners at second and third. Gio Urshela then delivered with a two-run single, putting the Yankees up 5-3 and wrapping up a five-run fifth. Urshela now has 72 RBI on the season.
5) Adam Ottavino could not hold a one-run lead in the seventh. The right-hander allowed a leadoff single to Richard Urena, and then quickly allowed him to move up on a wild pitch. Later, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at the plate, Ottavino balked to score Urena and tie the game 5-5.
6) In the bottom of the ninth inning, Bichette singled off of Luis Cessa to put winning run on base. Cavan Biggio then hit a ball to second base that Gleyber Torres couldn't handle, giving the Jays first and third with one out. Guerrero then bounced into a double play, sending the game to extras.
