Six things to know from Friday's Game 1

1. Jordan Montgomery was locked in early against the Mets. After striking out the side in the first inning, Montgomery cruised through the first four innings. He finally allowed a run to score in the fifth, hitting Dominic Smith with a pitch and eventually allowing him to score on a wild pitch.

In the sixth, Montgomery allowed back-to-back hits to lead off the inning, with the Yankees up 4-1. His day came to a close there.

2. Things fell apart for Chad Green in the sixth. Coming into the game with two runners on and no outs, Green allowed a tying three-run homer to Pete Alonso and then a go-ahead solo shot to Dominic Smith and another to Jake Marisnick, giving the Mets a 6-4 lead.

3. Clint Frazier made the most out of batting second in the Yankees' order. The outfielder reached base three times on the afternoon, including a two-run opposite field home run in the second inning off of Michael Wacha.

4. Luke Voit is proving to be a strong leadoff option for the Yankees, however unlike a choice it may be. Voit reached base in each of his first three at-bats, bringing his season batting average up to .325 on the season.

5. Miguel Andujar made the start at third base for the injured Gio Urshela, who is dealing with a bone spur in his elbow. Andujar struggled defensively, committing a double error after bobbling a ball and throwing it away in the top of the fifth. The error led to the Mets' first run of the game.

6. Estevan Florial made the start for the Yankees in center field, and he recorded his first big-league hit in the bottom of the fifth inning, dropping a single into center off of Walker Lockett.

What’s next

The Mets and Yankees play the second game of their doubleheader later on Friday on SNY. David Peterson will start for the Mets, while the Yankees haven’t yet announced their starter.
