The Yankees walked it off in the Bronx on Sunday afternoon against the Detroit Tigers to sweep them out of the city.

Takeaways from the game

1. Jordan Montgomery had a pretty solid start in this one despite getting the no-decision. He gave up two earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five over 6.1 innings to drop his ERA down to 3.02 on the year.

The top of the fourth inning was when the Tigers got to him. Though Gleyber Torres wasn't credited with an error, the play was borderline and one that brought the second run of the inning in. He went for a backhand that didn't go well with two outs and it should've ended the inning.

2. No one needed a game-tying homer more than Joey Gallo, and he got that in the bottom of the fifth when he was grooved a 3-1 fastball down the middle and he didn't miss it, sending it to right field to tie the game at two. Gallo had another chance for more RBIs in the bottom of the seventh with bases loaded and one out, but he struck out. Either way, he needed that hit and it was a game changer.

3. That bottom of the seventh could've been a lot better for the Yanks after Torres and Isiah Kiner-Falefa both singled while Matt Carpenter had a pinch-hit walk to load the bases. Once Gallo struck out, DJ LeMahieu walked to take the lead, 3-2, but Aaron Judge struck out to leave them stranded.

4. The future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera showed everyone why he will be first ballot after a clutch game-tying single in the top of the eighth to score Willi Castro. Miguel Castro had him down in the count and tried sneaking a two-seamer inside but he pulled his hands in and served it to center field. Cabrera went 3-for-3 with a run scored, a walk and an RBI.

5. In an odd play, Javy Baez hit a cueshot off Castro toward first base that Anthony Rizzo couldn't handle and it gave the Tigers a 4-3 lead as a runner scored from second following a wild throw.

6. Rizzo is confirmed a very smart baseball player. In the bottom of the eighth, down 4-3, Rizzo noticed Michael Fulmer got into a routine and wasn't watching him at first base. So Rizzo stole second and moved to third because the Tigers couldn't handle the ball. A dribbler from Torres would lead to Rizzo scoring to tie the game.

7. In the bottom of the 10th, Rizzo sent the runner on second, Judge, to third on a single up the middle. So, with no outs and runners on the corners, Josh Donaldson hit a deep walk-off sacrifice fly to win it.
