The Yankees won their eighth straight game, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays 12-3 on Friday night.

Here are five things to know…

1. The Yankees had a fifth inning that demonstrated exactly how potent their offense can be when it’s firing on all cylinders. The Yankees slammed three home runs in the inning – back-to-back shots from Giancarlo Stanton and DJ LeMahieu and a grand slam from Anthony Rizzo -- to break things wide open at 10-1. The Bombers scored eight runs in the inning on six hits.

2. LeMahieu had a nice night at the plate, starting out 2-for-2 with singles in each of his first two at-bats before his homer his third time up. After singling in the fourth, he took off on the pitch as Gleyber Torres smoked a ball into the left-center gap. LeMahieu motored all the way around the bases to score the Yankees’ first run of the game.

LeMahieu went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

3. Jordan Montgomery’s command was a little shaky in the second inning, as he hit a batter and walked another, leading to Gabriel Moreno singling in the game’s first run. But with plenty of run support behind him, Montgomery did a nice job of keeping the Jays’ offense quiet.

The lefty allowed a solo home run to Alejandro Kirk in the sixth, but he went six strong innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out five and walking one.

4. Following Montgomery, the Yankees turned to Manny Banuelos to eat up some innings with a big lead. The lefty was not very sharp, however, and recorded four outs while allowing one earned run on two hits, walking two with one strikeout.

Miguel Castro relieved Banuelos to get the final out in the eighth, and Lucas Luetge closed things out in the ninth.

5. The Yankees pounded 14 hits as a team, and four Yankees had multi-hit nights: Rizzo, LeMahieu, Torres and Aaron Judge. Just for good measure, Joey Gallo launched a two-run homer that just stayed fair, his ninth homer of the season and the Yankees' 105th as a team (most in MLB).

With Friday's win, the Yankees now have an 11.0 game lead over the Blue Jays in the AL East, with nine head-to-head matchups remaining this season.
