The Yankees are adding some bullpen help, signing left-hander Tim Mayza to a big league deal and adding him to the active roster.
Mayza had signed a minor league deal with the Yanks on July 10.
He spent the first seven seasons of his big league career pitching out of the bullpen for the Blue Jays, and Yankees fans may remember him for serving up Aaron Judge's record-tying 61st homer back in 2022.
The southpaw has been a reliable middle relief arm over the years, but he's struggled mightily this season, pitching to an 8.03 ERA and 1.94 WHIP across 35 appearances.
Toronto decided to cut him loose in July after he went unclaimed off waivers.
While he's taken a massive step back, Mayza was one of the top arms for Toronto last season, as he posted a terrific 1.52 ERA and allowed just two homers across a career-high 69 appearances.
