Yankees select C prospect Joe Mack in MLB Pipeline's 2021 mock draft

The 2021 MLB Draft is still months away, but that doesn't mean experts can't begin to predict which amateurs will go where. 

The Yankees get the 20th pick this year, and MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo believes that they will go with prep school catcher Joe Mack at that spot. 

"There's a run on prep catchers, which is a tough profile, but Mack can really catch and throw with a chance to hit for average and power," Mayo wrote. 

Mack plays his high school ball at Williamsville East in East Amherst, New York, so he's a local product. His older brother, Charlie Mack, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins two years ago. 

Perfect Game gave Mack a grade of 10, the highest they dish out. He is committed to play his college ball at Clemson University, but if the Yankees select him at No. 20, there's a good chance he won't be heading to South Carolina.

A lefty hitter, Mack has scouts believing he has solid gap-to-gap power right now that could develop into something more serious down the road. On the defensive side of the ball, his pop times last summer consistently stayed under 1.9 seconds, which is extremely good for a player his age.
