The Yankees fell to the Boston Red Sox, 3-0, on Sunday night. The Bombers bats went silent tonight, which has been a common theme over the past few weeks.
Here are the takeaways...
- As quick as the Yankees went down 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning, the Red Sox pushed across a run in the bottom half. Tommy Pham led off with a double, Rafael Devers moved the runner over and Xander Bogaerts drove him in on a ground ball to short. The Red Sox would jump out to a very quick 1-0 lead.
- The Yankees didn't tally their first baserunner until the top of the fifth inning when Miguel Andujar lined a single to left field. Isiah Kiner-Falefa walked and the Kyle Higashioka ripped a hard grounder down the third base line with two outs. Devers laid out and made the play to keep the Yanks scoreless.
- Michael Wacha absolutely dominated the Yanks lineup. The right-hander threw seven scoreless innings striking out nine while allowing just two hits. Aaron Boone's squad had no answer up and down the lineup.
- On a more positive note, the Yankees got another strong performance from their starting pitcher. Jameson Taillon threw seven strong innings allowing three runs and striking out four batters. The big blemish on his line was the two-run home run he served up to Rafael Devers in the bottom of the seventh inning that gave the Red Sox a 3-0 lead.
- Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a scoreless bottom of the eight, however, that would not matter as the Yanks did not answer in the ninth. Garret Whitlock nailed down the 3-0 victory for the Red Sox.
