The Yankees have placed Gleyber Torres on the 10-day disabled list with a right hip strain.

The infielder was removed from Wednesday's game against the Braves after striking out in the bottom of the fourth inning. A subsequent MRI revealed the strain.

Torres had previously sat out Tuesday night's game due to a hip flexor issue, but felt well enough to start Wednesday. The 21-year-old went 0-for-2 before being replaced by Brandon Drury in the lineup while Neil Walker took over at second base.

The rookie sensation is hitting .294 with 15 home runs in 64 games this season.

While it was valiant for Torres to try and play through the injury, the Yankees have to be hopeful that he didn't exacerbate the problem.

Torres has been a phenomenal contributor to the club since his call up, and filling his role will not be easy. The interesting aspect will be who garners the most reps at the keystone.

Will poor hitting Neil Walker, recently called up from purgatory Brandon Drury, or fan favorite Ronald Torreyes hold down the fort?

It's amazing to me that Walker is still on the roster, considering the .527 OPS he sports. But this could be the sole reason he was kept around: the unfortunate injury. Maybe the thought is that Walker can turn things on with consistent playing time, but there is little to indicate that's on the horizon.

Drury was thought to be the third baseman for 2018, but lost the job after suffering from migraines and subsequent blurred vision. Now that he is healthy and back in the big leagues, there is a chance he could play second base, having done so for the Diamondbacks the last two seasons.

Finally, Torreyes might be the choice because of his uncanny knack for finding grass despite his inability to take a pitch. However, it seems more reasonable that Torreyes comes up to be the backup infielder for Torres' roster spot.
