The Yankees dropped the series finale to the Philadelphia Phillies, 11-4, on Sunday night at Citizens Bank Park.

-- The Phillies got to Will Warren early and often in this one, starting with a leadoff triple by Trea Turner, who came around to score a batter later on Kyle Schwarber’s sacrifice fly. Philadelphia added another run in the second on Bryson Stott’s solo shot to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

Things completely fell apart for Warren in the third inning, all with two outs after the right-hander retired the first two batters of the frame. First, Schwarber walked, which was followed by a double by Bryce Harper.

After a mound visit from pitching coach Matt Blake, New York elected to intentionally walk the lefty Brandon Marsh to set up the right-on-right matchup against Alec Bohm. The strategy backfired once Bohm, following a nine-pitch at-bat, cleared the bases with a three-run double to put Philly ahead 5–0. Stott tacked on a run with an RBI single before Warren was finally able to get the final out of the inning.

The right-hander went back out for the fourth, but after an infield hit on the first pitch Warren threw, manager Aaron Boone went to his bullpen.

Warren’s final line: 3 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 5 K on 68 pitches (39 strikes). It was a rare poor start for New York, which has been getting excellent starting pitching lately, especially in this series.

-- The Yankees battled back and got close in the fifth inning after their offense put up a three-spot against Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez. The only run-scoring hit of the inning came off the bat of Anthony Volpe, whose double down the left-field line cut New York’s deficit to 6-3.

The first run of the inning came around to score on an errant pickoff throw to first base by Sanchez, which scored Ali Sanchez. Jasson Dominguez’s groundout scored the second run.

-- Following successful relief appearances by Tim Hill and Camilo Doval, who struck out the side in the fifth after coming in with runners on first and second and nobody out, Ryan Yarbrough was not as sharp.

Four straight singles produced a run before Yarbrough struck out the next two with the bases loaded to nearly get out of the inning without further damage. Instead, the left-hander hit Bohm to force in a run and then allowed a bases-clearing double by Stott to blow the game open.

-- Trying to stage another comeback, Ben Rice followed in the next half inning with a solo shot, but it wasn’t nearly enough. Rice finished 2-for-5, joining Volpe (2-for-3) and Sanchez (2-for-3) as the only Yankees to get multiple hits.

-- On the other side, Philadelphia tallied 13 hits with Stott leading the group with three to go along with five RBI and a run scored. He was a triple shy of the cycle. Pinch-hitter Bryan De La Cruz entered in the sixth inning and finished 2-for-2 and is now hitting .714 (5-for-7) in three games with the Phillies since getting promoted from Triple-A earlier this week.

Every Phillies player to get an at-bat had at least one hit except for J.T. Realmuto, who went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
