Major League Baseball has some pretty exclusive clubs. Take the 40-40 club for example, which includes just six members who have hit 40 home runs and stolen 40 bases in the same season: Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Alfonso Soriano, Ronald Acuña Jr., and Shohei Ohtani.

Of that group, only Ohtani has been able to take things a step forward, becoming the sole member of the 50-50 club in 2024, when he compiled one of the greatest offensive seasons the game has ever seen.

But according to Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., he just might be applying for membership into the 50-50 club in 2026.

“Ask [Aaron Judge],” Chisholm said to reporters in Tampa, via Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. “Real life. Let’s just be realistic. I got all the tools for it. I have the speed, the power, the plate discipline, the eye at the plate, defense. I got everything to accumulate a 10-WAR season.”

When told that Ohtani is the only player to ever breach the 50-50 mark, Chisholm responded: “You’re looking at the second one."

Perhaps Chisholm was speaking with some bravado, but it is worth noting that he is coming off his first 30-30 season, as he launched a career-best 31 home runs and stole 31 bases in 130 games in 2025. His career-best in stolen bases in 40, which he accomplished in 2024, the year he split with the Miami Marlins and Yankees.

Had Chisholm played in all 162 regular season games last year, his home run pace would have had him in the 38-39 home run range, and he also dealt with knee contusions and an oblique strain that likely dampened his stolen base total.

With Yankee Stadium's notorious short porch in right field, could Chisholm approach 50 big flies in a fully healthy season? It doesn't sound completely out of the realm of possibility, but manager Aaron Boone is counting on it.

“I don’t expect it,” Boone told reporters. “I feel like he’s in a really good frame of mind. He’s incredibly confident, for good reason. Bottom line is if he goes out there and goes to the post and does his thing and hopefully, keeps improving in his game, he’s going to put himself in a really good position come the end of the season.”
