With storms expected to sweep through the New York City area, Tuesday’s series opener between the Yankees and Angels was postponed and will be played as a doubleheader on Wednesday.
But even with the game washed out, Yankees skipper Aaron Boone still met with the media and provided a few injury updates.
- First baseman Anthony Rizzo is "doing well," hitting off the pitching machine. But Boone said there's still no timetable for Rizzo, who is recovering from a right forearm fracture, to return.
- Infielder Jon Berti (calf strain) is "getting back close to full-speed running," but he's not quite there yet. If this week goes well, Berti will likely head to Tampa and repeat that week of work, per Boone.
- Jose Trevino (quad strain) is close to getting back on the field and could play in a rehab game as early as Sunday, per Boone. If not on Sunday, Trevino would likely start his rehab assignment on Tuesday.
Clarke Schmidt throws live BP
Meanwhile, right-hander Clarke Schmidt threw a live batting practice session on Tuesday, with Rizzo among the batters to stand in the box against him.
Schmidt told Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News that he “feels great” after his live BP session on Tuesday afternoon and is scheduled to throw another one on Saturday. From there, the next step could either be another live BP or a rehab start.
