Things to know about the game

1) The Yankees and Nationals were tied at 3 entering the bottom of the sixth inning before rain halted play in May.

2) Chad Green, who came on in relief of Masahiro Tanaka, surrendered a go-ahead two-run home run to Juan Soto, who on May 15 was in Double-A and made his official MLB debut on May 20, in the bottom of the sixth inning that gave Washington a 5-3 lead. (Soto's official MLB debut will still be May 20, but with an asterisk to denote his appearance in the suspended game.)

3) The Yankees went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base. Aaron Hicks grounded out to short with runners on the corners to end the eighth inning. New York left runners stranded on second and third in the first, second and fifth innings, squandering a two-on, no-out opportunity in the second.

4) Didi Gregorius hit into a double play in the seventh inning when he lined out to Soto and Gary Sanchez was thrown out trying to return to second base.

5) Tanaka allowed three runs and four hits before he was pulled. Gio Gonzalez, who started the original game, allowed three runs (two earned) and six hits in five innings for Washington.

6) Tyler Austin, who has since been demoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, drove in three Yankees runs. He hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and a sac fly in the fifth.

The Yankees fall in a suspended game which had some freak occurrences:

Greg Bird got his first hit in a game in which he was actually on the DL when it began.

Austin was the hitting star for the Yankees, yet he wasn't there today because he's in Triple-A with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Finally, and this might be the weirest of all, Soto technically hit a home run in a game five days before he made his MLB debut!

Unfortunately, the strange happenings might be the best that came out of the game for the Yankees as the result falls into the loss column. One has to wonder if Green "starting" a game made any difference in his mindset or not. It's doubtful, however it wouldn't be shocking if he felt out of sorts taking the hill today at the "outset" of game play.
