The Yankees optioned Deivi Garcia to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday, meaning the right-hander will not break camp with the team when they head north to open the season.

But speaking to reporters on Saturday, Garcia remains positive and is ready to help the big club whenever he’s called upon.

“I'm the type of person that wants to keep a positive mind,” Garcia said through a translator. “I know that if I focus on my job and keep doing my work to stay healthy, another opportunity is going to come just like last year. It's up to me to stay with my work, keep on doing what I need to do, and hopefully the opportunity will come around again.”

Garcia opened last season at the team’s Alternate Site before earning the call-up and making his Major League debut on Aug. 30. He made six starts with the Yankees last season, pitching to a 3-2 record with a 4.98 ERA, striking out 33 hitters and walking six in 34 1/3 innings pitched.

Garcia allowed six runs in 14 innings this spring, but manager Aaron Boone pointed to some mechanical issues that the team wants Garcia to work on before he joins the rotation for what the Yankees hope is years to come.

“I believe it's an easy fix for me,” Garcia said of the adjustments he needs to make. “I went through something very similar before I got called up last year. I was able to make the adjustment, and eventually that's one of the reasons I think I was called up. I was able to join the team and have some good results. So I’m very confident I can make the adjustment again.”
