The Yankees placed RHP Chad Green on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right elbow strain.

Manager Aaron Boone spoke prior to Saturday's game and said that Green is seeking multiple opinions on the "significant" injury that may require surgery.

Green felt discomfort in his right forearm during Thursday's game against the Baltimore Orioles, and pulled himself from the outing in the sixth inning after just 0.2 IP.

After the game, Green explained that it was the right thing to leave the game when he wasn't focused and was worried about his arm.

“I would say it was building up [during the outing], kinda just a gradual discomfort, just an uneasy feeling," Green said. "Any time when you’re out there trying to compete in a high-leverage situation, and you’re not focused on executing pitches, and you’re worried about other stuff, that’s a time that you probably shouldn’t be out there.”

Green noted that he felt fine heading into the game, but noticed something was feeling off after making a pickoff attempt.

"It didn’t feel great, so I kinda had like a self talk with myself and decided it was probably best to not move forward," Green said.

Over 14 appearances this season, the 30-year-old reliever is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 15 IP. Opposing batters are hitting just .241 against him this season, as he's allowed only five earned runs on 13 hits, including one homer, to go along with 16 strikeouts.

Green has been a consistent reliever for the Yankees over his seven seasons in the big leagues, pitching to a 3.17 ERA through 272 games. He holds a 33-22 record, and has made 24 starts, including 15 during the 2019 season.

The Yankees recalled RHP Ron Marinaccio from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Green's spot on the roster. He's appeared in four games this season for the Yanks, but has struggled a bit, allowing five earned runs on six hits over four IP.
