Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman has been solid all season long when called out of the bullpen to close games. He owns a 1.98 ERA and has only blown two of his save opportunities.

But recently, the Cuban Missile has made things far too tense for the Yanks in the ninth inning, which began during his save opportunity against the Minnesota Twins on June 10 that resulted in four runs and two homers to blow it. Since then, he’s been on and off with some very close calls that defense has had to save him from.

Aaron Boone discussed Chapman’s recent outings, saying that he does feel he’s throwing well.

“I think we go back to the Minnesota outing that was just a bad outing. He didn’t have his good stuff, he didn’t throw well and they got him,” he told reporters before New York kicks off a series with the Royals on Tuesday night. “And that’s going to happen over the course of a long season. Really since then, I feel like he’s throwing the ball really well.

“In the first game in the Oakland series, even though they had some good at-bats, some tough at-bats, I thought he was kinda dominant especially with his stuff. I thought he threw the ball extremely well against the Blue Jays. Obviously against a tough lineup, made big pitches when he had to. And then the other day was just the issue where obviously the nail played a huge role, so I don’t really attribute that to a stretch that he’s in. That was more of kinda pitching through some adversity out there and soreness.”
