As Opening Day neared, the deadline to sign Jacob deGrom tightened. The Mets and deGrom came to a deal ealry Tuesday, SNY's Andy Martino reported.
"We both had this understanding that we wanted to get something finished before the start of Opening Day," Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen told SNY's Gary Apple. " ... Our hope is that we can finalize something in the next 24 hours."
With the season about to begin, Van Wagenen is particularly excited for the games to start counting.
"I think that we all worked really hard this offseason," he told SNY. "The players worked harder than anyone else. I know they're ready."
