Alex Rodriguez and close friend Marc Lore are reportedly finalizing a deal to become the new owners of the Minnesota Timberwolves, but Anthony Edwards, one of the team’s rising stars, doesn’t seem to be putting too much stock into the ownership change.

In fact, he’s not even sure who Rodriguez is.

Edwards, the first overall pick from the 2020 NBA Draft, was asked if he was a fan of Rodriguez following the Timberwolves’ 127-97 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday afternoon.

A fan? Who is he?” Edwards asked.

“I don’t know who that is,” Edwards then responded after being told that Rodriguez was a baseball player. “I know he’s gonna be our owner, but I don’t know nothing about baseball.”

After the video of Edwards began to go viral, Rodriguez weighed in, sharing the video to his Instagram story saying “Hi Anthony I’m Alex!”

Edwards, who is having a terrific season, averaging 17.9 points as a rookie with 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists, then played it cool, re-sharing A-Rod’s story while saying “What’s good my guy”

It all seemed to be in good fun, but perhaps the 19-year-old Edwards might want to brush up a bit on the man who will soon own the team.

As first reported by ESPN, T-Wolves majority owner Glen Taylor will remain in control of the team for two years before Rodriguez and Lore take over in 2023.

This latest move for the 45-year-old former AL MVP comes not long after Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez were trying to purchase the Mets, before Steve Cohen ended up buying the team.
