Tony DeAngelo was scratched for the first two games this season, played against Carolina and San Jose and has been a healthy scratch for the past five games.
DeAngelo is not expected to play against the Blackhawks tonight but said that he will be "ready to go" when he gets his chance to return.
David Quinn has said that DeAngelo "knows what he needs to do" to get back in the lineup and that he needs to be better in practice. (NY Post & NYR)
Quinn said he is seeing progress with DeAngelo but isn't seeing him yet at the level he needs to be at. (The Athletic)
He added that DeAngelo is 23-years old and is making his way towards getting back into the lineup and "hopefully it happens soon." (The Athletic)
In the two games this season, DeAngelo has 2 assists, 2 shots on goal, 3 shot attempts and an average of 19:03 per game.
When DeAngelo was on the ice at 5 on 5 in those two games, the Rangers had 25 shot attempts for, 41 shot attempts against, 13 shots on goal for and 24 shots on goal against. (Natural Stat Trick)
Following DeAngelo's first game against Carolina, where he had two assists, Quinn said
Adam Rotter: DeAngelo is fourth on the Rangers depth chart for right shot defensemen. Kevin Shattenkirk, certainly Neal Pionk and Adam McQuaid are all ahead of him and it's been tough for the Rangers to get a look at DeAngelo to start the season. He's in a tough spot because he needs to play but he can't go to Hartford without clearing waivers. A two-week conditioning stint to Hartford could work to get him some playing time but that is really only a short-term solution. Injuries or someone else's struggle will get him into the lineup at some point but it likely won't get a regular spot in the lineup until after the deadline.
