Following the last game of the Rangers season, Henrik Lundqvist spoke about how the last few months of the season were about "learning and new experiences" but that next season is about "winning games and getting back into the playoffs." (NYR)
Lundqvist said that the Rangers need to set a goal right away that if you are on the team you are there to make a difference. (NYR)
He said that he thinks the Rangers can turn things around quickly with the experience that some of the young players got as well as with other moves the team can make. (NYR)
Lundqvist said, "we have the skill and speed in a lot of these guys and when we know when to use it we are going to be a really good team. That is what makes me excited to hopefully come back next year and turn things around." (NYR)
On breakup day, Lundqvist said "you don't know who is going to show up but whoever is going to be here, we are going to compete and be sure we have a better year and that is that."
When asked about what Lundqvist said, GM Jeff Gorton said "Henrik is the ultimate competitor and I am sure he will approach the offseason like no offseason in the past, he will come back and prove to everyone that we can turn it around quickly and he can be the guy to be the backbone for that. I understand what he is saying and I hope everyone in our room understands that we should be about winning."
Mats Zuccarello said after the season ended that, for next year, "the mindset for everyone should be that, no matter where or when, the only thing you can control is to give 100% and that is the mindset everyone should have and everyone will have next year. If we all have that it's going to be good."
Owner James Dolan said that the Rangers do not intend to bottom out as they rebuild.
