Saturday was a brisk December day, but Mets owner Steve Cohen saw it as an opportunity to show his appreciation to fans.

Along with his wife, Alex, Cohen helped distribute some bobbleheads and say thank you to season ticket holders for sticking it out through a 2020 season that saw COVID-19 concerns keep fans out of Citi Field.

“We wanted to thank our fans for going through a season that was obviously incredibly difficult, and we just wanted to thank them for their support,” Cohen said. “Our fans are the best fans in baseball, so we just wanted to say thank you.

“They’re excited, I was talking to them, they really love the Mets and you can feel it.”

Over the course of the weekend, the club will distribute about 30,000 bobbleheads that were intended to be gameday giveaways during the 2020 season. One bobblehead commemorates Pete Alonso’s 2019 Rookie of the Year Award-winning season, and the other commemorates Jacob deGrom’s back-to-back NL Cy Young Award wins in 2018 and 2019.

The 2021 season may still feel like a long ways away, but the Mets did make some big additions on Saturday, as the team is finalizing a four-year contract with catcher James McCann and also hiring former Diamondbacks exec Jared Porter as the team's general manager.
