If Steve Cohen is approved by MLB owners, Sandy Alderson will be returning to the Mets as team president, overseeing baseball and business operations.

"Sandy is an accomplished and respected baseball executive who shares my philosophy of building an organization and a team the right way," Cohen said in a statement. "I am excited to have Sandy in a key leadership role with the Mets if my purchase of the team is approved. Let's Go Mets!"

SNY's Andy Martino was first to report that Alderson -- who was Mets GM from 2011 to 2018 -- was likely to return to the team in some capacity as part of the ownership change, and likely not as general manager.

All of this is contingent on Cohen's agreed-to deal with the Wilpon and Katz families to purchase 95 percent of the team being approved by at least 23 of the 29 other owners.

Alderson's arrival would, at the very least, signify an altered power dynamic for Brodie Van Wagenen, whose job is in jeopardy with the wave of changes.
